Chelsea could return
to the transfer market in January after completing another major squad overhaul
during the summer.
Xabi Alonso reshaped
his options after taking charge, with Morgan Rogers becoming the headline
arrival in a £117 million move.
The Blues also added
Maxence Lacroix, Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck as Alonso introduced both
quality and experience.
However, Enzo
Fernandez's departure to Manchester City left a significant change in
midfield ahead of the new campaign.
Chelsea
are now reportedly planning to address that area when the January transfer
window opens.
According to El
Nacional, Chelsea are preparing a move for Arsenal midfielder Martin
Zubimendi.
The report claims
Chelsea intend to offer €70 million, which equates to around £60 million, for
the Spain international.
Zubimendi joined
Arsenal just over a year ago after establishing himself at Real Sociedad and
with the Spanish national team.
However, his situation
has changed this season after losing his regular starting position under Mikel
Arteta.
The 27-year-old has
started only once during the current campaign, with that appearance coming at
right-back.
Zubimendi consequently
intends to leave Arsenal during the January transfer window, according to the
report.
Chelsea have emerged
as a potential destination, with Alonso viewing his compatriot as an option to
strengthen midfield.
The pair previously
crossed paths within Real Sociedad's youth setup before Zubimendi progressed
into the first team.
Furthermore, Alonso
has already received approval from Zubimendi over a potential move. Chelsea
would still need to reach an agreement with Arsenal before completing any
transfer.
Real
Madrid are also showing interest in signing Zubimendi next summer. So, the
London club will have competition for the Spaniard in the market.
The Blues are
therefore preparing a significant January approach as they attempt to bring
Zubimendi across London.
